The WRAS Netball program is part of a partnership between Netball NSW and Regional Academies of Sport (RAS).

The program focuses on long-term individual development, unlocking potential both on and off the court for players aged 15-16, and umpires aged 14-18, who receive technical and tactical skill development, along with fitness, strength, and speed support.

The WRAS Netball program train regularly as a squad, and also come together for Academy Camps, Academy Games, and the Academy Challenge – unique experiences that foster growth, competition, and connection.

Selected squad members receive:

  • High‑quality coaching in a squad environment at quality training facilities
  • Strength & Conditioning assessment, programming, and high‑performance training support
  • Opportunities to represent WRAS at events
  • High-level technical, tactical, and personal Netball development
  • Academy uniform kit (additional cost)
  • Participation in Your Local Club Academy Games, Netball NSW Academy Challenge and Inter-Academy netball activities

The WRAS Netball Program aligns with the Netball NSW ‘Sparkle, Strive, Shine’ pathway, which also aligns with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) FTEM (Foundation, Talent, Elite, Mastery) framework. The SWSAS Netball Program is part of the T2 phase of the pathway, progressing athletes from Emerging Talent (ET) to Talent.

Program Eligibility Criteria

Athletes must:

  • Turning 15 or 16 in 2027 (born 2011 or 2012)
  • Be committed to progressing to higher representation within Netball.
  • Be a registered member of a Netball club within the Western region.

 

Umpires must:

  • Be aged between 14-18 years of age in 2027 (born in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013).
  • Be working towards a National C or B Badge.
  • Display the potential to progress through the Netball NSW and Netball Australia Umpire Pathway.
 
Both Athletes and Umpires must:
 
  • Reside in one of the following LGAs: Bathurst Regional, Bland, Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Dubbo Regional, Forbes, Gilgandra, Hilltops, Lachlan, Lithgow, Mid-Western Regional, Narromine, Oberon, Orange, Parkes and Weddin.
An athlete scholarship levy will apply, covering the above listed program benefits and more. Uniform costs are additional, with Netball‑specific and WRAS items purchased through the official supplier. Additional event costs may apply for Academy Games and Netball NSW pathway events.

  • Netball NSW Academy Challenge, September, 2027

Athletes can expect monthly training sessions in February, March, June, July, August, and September with intensive weekly sessions planned for February through March (pending coach availability). This will be communicated through Lumin when confirmed.

Strength and conditioning sessions will commence from Term 1 in 2027 and continue the length of the program. This will be communicated through Lumin when confirmed.
