Nominations for the 2026/27 Program have now closed.

The WRAS Basketball program is delivered in partnership with Basketball NSW and the Regional Academies of Sport (RAS) network.

This program provides a high‑performance development pathway for talented young Basketballers, focusing on technical skills, strength and conditioning, athlete education, and personal growth. It aligns with the Basketball NSW Development Pathway and connects athletes to state and national pathways.

Athletes receive targeted skill development, seasonal training support, and preparation for high‑performance trials. The program includes practical education in areas such as S&C, nutrition, sports psychology and injury management, along with opportunities to represent WRAS at events, inter‑academy sessions and camps.

Program Partners

Selected athletes receive:

  • High‑quality coaching in a squad environment
  • Access to quality training facilities
  • Strength & Conditioning assessment and programming
  • Sports science testing and high‑performance training support
  • Opportunities to represent WRAS at events
  • Academy uniform kit (playing singlets to be provided with other items an additional cost)
  • Participation in Your Local Club Academy Games and Inter-Academy Basketball activities (invitation only)
 

Additional WRAS benefits:

  • Access to Lumin (Academy athlete performance and management platform)
  • Support for award and scholarship nominations
  • Community engagement and corporate partner exposure
  • Promotion through WRAS media channels

Program Eligibility Criteria

Athletes must:

  • Be turning 12 or 13 (U14), 14 or 15 (U16), 16 or 17 (U18) in 2027 (born between 2010-2015)
  • Be committed to progressing to higher representation within Basketball.
  • Be a registered member of a Basketball club within the Western region.
  • Reside in one of the following LGAs: Bathurst Regional, Bland, Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Dubbo Regional, Forbes, Gilgandra, Hilltops, Lachlan, Lithgow, Mid-Western Regional, Narromine, Oberon, Orange, Parkes and Weddin.
An athlete scholarship levy will apply, covering the above listed program benefits and more. Uniform costs are additional, with Basketball‑specific and WRAS items purchased through the official supplier. Additional event costs may apply for Academy Games and Basketball NSW pathway events.

  • December – InterAcademy Training Camp, TBC
  • January/February 2027 – Coastal Classic
  • Your Local Club Academy Games: 9th-11th April, 2027 (Tamworth)
    • Please note, this will only be selected squads, exact squads will be communicated when confirmed
  • June 2027 – WRAS Presentation Evening 
     

    Training events to be communicated via Lumin when confirmed.

    Weekly satellite sessions in Bathurst, Orange, and Dubbo will look to commence from Term 4 pending coach and court availability.

    Strength and conditioning sessions to commence from Term 4.
