Regional Academies of Sport bring future leaders together for Athlete Leadership Event

The Regional Academies of Sport (RAS) hosted its annual Athlete Leadership Day on Tuesday 24 February, bringing together top athletes from across the network for a day of connection, development and inspiration.

Held at the Blacktown Exercise Sports & Technology Hub (BEST) at Blacktown International Sports Park, the event is a key fixture on the RAS calendar, designed to support the holistic development of emerging athletes beyond their sporting performance.

Delivered in partnership with Human Performance Programs, the day provided athletes with the opportunity to step outside of their usual training environments and engage in a series of dynamic, interactive activities focused on leadership, teamwork and communication.

The program began with a formal welcome and introduction from RAS leadership, before Human Performance Programs facilitators led athletes through a range of practical sessions both indoors and outdoors . These activities were designed to challenge athletes, encourage collaboration, and build confidence in leadership settings.

Athlete Leadership Day plays an important role in uniting athletes from different regions, creating a unique environment where they can connect, share experiences and build relationships with peers who are on similar high-performance pathways.

Beyond skill development, the event also reinforces the importance of balance, encouraging athletes to enjoy the experience, have fun, and build lifelong connections within the RAS network.

The day concluded with a wrap-up session, before athletes transitioned to the evening’s RAS Awards, celebrating excellence across the network.

With a strong focus on connection, leadership and enjoyment, Athlete Leadership Day remains a cornerstone event in the RAS calendar, helping to shape the next generation of athletes and leaders.
