Bevin Newton’s passion for skateboarding and commitment to athlete development have been instrumental in shaping the North Coast Academy of Sport’s (NCAS) Skateboarding Program over the past four years, helping create new opportunities for regional skateboarders to develop their skills and pursue competitive success.
As Head Coach, Bevin has helped establish a high-performance pathway that goes well beyond time on the board. The program combines skate-specific coaching with strength and conditioning, physical preparation, nutrition education and sports psychology, giving athletes access to the tools and support needed to develop both physically and mentally. Training camps and coaching sessions across the North Coast also provide athletes with valuable competition preparation and the opportunity to learn alongside experienced coaches and established skateboarders.
Bevin’s approach has always been about building well-rounded athletes and creating a supportive environment where young skateboarders can challenge themselves, develop confidence and reach their potential. His commitment has helped the program grow year on year, with NCAS athletes delivering impressive results at major competitions, including multiple medal-winning performances.
Beyond NCAS, Bevin is a respected contributor to the wider skateboarding scene, bringing his expertise to the sport as a World Skate Judge. His involvement extends into the local community through his work with Chalkies Skateshop and as an organiser of Coffs Harbour’s Kobbas Skate Fest.
Held in memory of local skateboarder Koby Mitchell, Kobbas has grown into a major celebration of skateboarding, music, art and community, attracting competitors from across Australia and beyond. Bevin has played an important role in supporting the event and creating opportunities for skateboarders of different ages and abilities to participate, showcase their talent and connect through the sport.
Whether he’s coaching the next generation of competitive skateboarders, judging at events or helping bring the local skateboarding community together, Bevin’s contribution extends well beyond the skatepark. His passion, leadership and commitment to developing regional talent make him a deserving recipient of the 2026 NCAS Coach of the Year Award.
