Southern Sports Academy
Wagga Wagga cyclist Jacob McLachlan is making his mark on the national and international cycling scene, combining impressive results on the road and track with opportunities to represent Australia against some of the world’s best emerging riders.
A Southern Sports Academy Future Stars athlete, Jacob reached a significant milestone in 2026 when he was selected in the AusCycling Australian U17 Development Team to compete at the YSD International Track Series in Malaysia.
Competing against international riders from Malaysia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Japan, Jacob returned home with an outstanding five medals. He claimed gold in the Team Pursuit and Elimination Race, alongside silver in the Team Sprint, Scratch Race and Omnium.
Jacob continued his strong form on the road at the Yunca Junior Tour of Southland in New Zealand, competing for the Rauland’s Cycling Team. Despite challenging conditions, including rain, hail, 60km/h crosswinds and mechanical issues, he claimed victory in the 50km Stage 3 Road Race and finished second overall in the Sprint Classification after consistently collecting points across all six stages.
His achievements reflect the dedication, resilience and versatility required to compete across multiple cycling disciplines and at an international level.
